It’s officially time to trade in those pool floats for cozy sweaters and embrace all that autumn has to offer. Whether you’re a seasoned explorer or just looking for a quick escape from your typical routine, Nova and I wanted to share a few of our favorite places to enjoy when the leaves fall and the temperatures drop đ¶ we hope they leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the holidays around the corner!
Sugarcreek MetroPark: Need some peace and quiet? Need a short nature walk to recharge? Need a longer walk to decompress and unwind? Head to Sugarcreek MetroPark in Bellbrook, OH. Hike along the scenic trails under a canopy of vibrant fall foliage. I particularly love the Orange Trail and it’s a very pup-friendly park! This is a stunning (and slightly underrated) MetroPark that I highly recommend checking out. Make sure you take a look at their calendar of events if you want to bring the kids for a fun family adventure! There is an upcoming Owl Walk in mid-October…how cool!
Cox Arboretum: Feeling a bit more botanical? Cox Arboretum boasts a diverse collection of trees and plants, all putting on a dazzling display of color come fall. It’s a peaceful oasis, perfect for a relaxing stroll or a picnic under the changing leaves. Head to the top of the watch tower to get a colorful view of the treetops and breathe in fresh air. Cox Arboretum is also home to a Pollinator Garden where you can learn about pollinator-friendly plants and get ideas to make your backyard more pollinator-friendly. Mother Nature will thank you for that one! They also have a fantastic indoor space for events, so keep them in mind for special occasions!Â
Germantown MetroPark: Whoâs up for a hike? The Germantown MetroPark in (you guessed it) Germantown, OH is a quick 20-minute drive from downtown Dayton, but the breathtaking views make you feel like youâre miles away from the hustle and bustle of downtown living. Hike the challenging trails for panoramic views of the fall landscape, and donât forget to bring your camera to capture some truly memorable photo opportunities!
Yellow Springs: Craving a charming small-town escape with a touch of fall flair? Yellow Springs is your answer! Stop by the Tecumseh Land Trust and get lost in the most incredible field of sunflowers. It really is something magical! Then head into town to explore unique shops, enjoy a delicious meal at a cozy cafe, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. Don’t miss the historic John Bryan State Park for a scenic hike and make sure to add Clifton Mills to your bucket list to check out this winter as well!Â
Oakwood: If you’re looking for a charming, tree-lined community with a touch of history, Oakwood is a must-visit. This picturesque suburb of Dayton offers a peaceful escape from the city bustle, with its well-preserved Victorian homes, beautiful parks, and friendly atmosphere. Explore the Oakwood Cemetery, a historic landmark featuring stunning sculptures and monuments, or for a dose of peaceful solitude, check out Francine’s Garden, a small unique treasure hidden in the hills of Centennial Park at Houk Stream.
Sometimes, you just need a full weekend getaway to truly unwind. Head out to Hocking Hills State Park for a truly awe-inspiring fall experience. Hike through dramatic rock formations, explore hidden waterfalls, and witness the stunning transformation of the Ohio landscape. With so much to see and explore, itâs absolutely worth the slightly longer drive, and maybe even a day or two off work. đ
